Hey, parents!
We wanted to offer a few directions as you navigate leading your grade-schooler through today’s lesson and activities. Below you will find our Bible passage for the day, a lesson plan for the day, and several other tips that can help you and your child as you study and worship this morning.
Here are the materials you will need for our lesson today:
Coloring Supplies
1. Read the Bible Passage | GENESIS 42-46; 50
2. Ask the Big Picture Question:
Is there anything God cannot do?
3. Watch the Bible Story
4. Review the Key Verse
Hosea 13:4, “I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt; you know no God but me, and besides me there is no savior.”
5. Answer the Big Picture Question
God can do all things according to His character.
6. Interact with the “Questions from kids” Video
7. Pray together
8. Do one or both of the Activities
Activity #1: Eye Spy
Directions
Select one family member to be It. He will look around your room and secretly choose an object to think about. He will then say “I spy with my little eye something that is … “ and then state the color of the object he is thinking of. Then the rest of your family will take turns trying to guess which object he is thinking of. Whoever guesses correctly can be It next.
Say
In our game, you were supposed to spy different objects and others had to guess which object you had spied. In our story today, we will learn about a time Joseph accused 10 men of being spies who had come to see what kind of power Egypt had. Do you think the men were spies? Who do you think the men might have been?
Activity #2: Coin Snatch
Directions
Invite your family to sit in a circle. Choose one person to sit in the center of the circle and give them a coin. They will close their eyes and place the coin on the ground behind them. While their eyes are closed, silently designate someone to sneak forward and take the coin. Then the person in the middle will open their eyes and try to guess who took the coin. Play multiple times, allowing other family members to be the person in the middle.
Say
In our story today, we will hear about a time Joseph’s brothers went to Egypt to buy grain. They did not recognize Joseph. What do you think Joseph did when he saw His brothers? Would it surprise you to know he gave them their money back with the grain?
EXTRA TIPS
If your grade-schooler is in First or Second Grade, start the morning working on the coloring sheet and activity page.
As time permits, do one activity before the Bible Story Video and one activity afterward, to help reinforce the message.
If your grade-schooler is in Third, Fourth, or Fifth Grade, download and print the Older Kid Journal Page for them to work on at the end of the lesson
