Hey, parents!
We wanted to offer a few directions as you navigate leading your grade-schooler through today’s lesson and activities. Below you will find our Bible passage for the day, a lesson plan for the day, and several other tips that can help you and your child as you study and worship this morning.
Here are the materials you will need for our lesson today:
Coloring Supplies
1. Read the Bible Passage | Genesis 39-41
2. Ask the Big Picture Question:
Is there anything God cannot do?
3. Watch the Bible Story
4. Review the Key Verse
Hosea 13:4, “I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt; you know no God but me, and besides me there is no savior.”
5. Answer the Big Picture Question
God can do all things according to His character.
6. Interact with the “Questions from kids” Video
7. Pray together
8. Do one or both of the Activities
Activity #1: Remember Me
Directions
Instruct your kids to sit in a circle. Select one family member to go first by saying an adjective that describes her followed by her name. Encourage fun alliterations or rhymes. The next person will say an adjective for himself and his own name and then repeat the adjective and name of the previous player. Play passes in this way until each family member has a turn. See if the first child can say each other person’s title when it gets back to them.
Say
That game was tough! It can be hard to remember something about another person, especially if you are busy thinking about what you will say when it’s your turn. In our story today, we will hear about a time Joseph asked another man to remember him. Do you think that man remembered Joseph?
Activity #2: Name That Tune
Directions
Invite your kids to stay sitting in a circle. Remind them that Nepal is a country in South Asia. Hum familiar melodies and allow your kids to guess the name of the song. Give each family member a turn.
Suggested tunes: “Good Morning to You,” “Jesus Loves Me,” “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star,” and so forth.
Say
One thing you might have in common with the people of Nepal is a love for music. God has given missionaries a really creative idea to share the gospel with the people of Nepal through music! They work with musicians in Nepal to create songs that share God’s love for them. Sometimes they will use traditional Nepalese songs and add new words that glorify God.
We can do something similar here! Each of those melodies you recognized could be given new words to glorify God! Let’s write one together!
Suggested lyrics for “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”:
God sent Jesus from above,
He came down to show us love.
He died on the cross for me,
Took my sin to set me free. God sent Jesus from above,
He came down to show us love.
EXTRA TIPS
If your grade-schooler is in First or Second Grade, start the morning working on the coloring sheet and activity page.
As time permits, do one activity before the Bible Story Video and one activity afterward, to help reinforce the message.
If your grade-schooler is in Third, Fourth, or Fifth Grade, download and print the Older Kid Journal Page for them to work on at the end of the lesson
