5. Answer the Big Picture Question
God is our Creator and King.
6. Interact with the “Questions from kids” video
7. Pray together
8. Do one or both of the Activities
Activity #1: Shadow Puppet Theatre
Directions
Dim the lights in your room and use a flashlight or other single source of bright light to cast shadows on a focal wall. Allow your kids to use their hands to make different kinds of animal-shaped shadows.
Say
Great shadow puppets, everyone! When you make a shadow, your hand blocks the light from hitting the wall. We can make a shadow look like all kinds of different things, but none of the images look exactly like the animal we are mimicking. Today, we will learn about the way people are made in God’s image, and what that means. We aren’t perfect images of God either!
Activity #2: Mirror Self-Portraits
Directions
Provide your kids with a few mirrors to examine their faces. Ask each child to use paper and a pencil to draw a picture of her own face. If you don’t have enough mirrors for all your kids to have one, consider using one large mirror or helping your kids take turns using the mirrors you do have.
Say
As you looked at your face in the mirror, did it become easier or harder to draw a picture of yourself? How well do you feel you did at capturing your image on paper? Today we will learn about the ways people are made in God’s image. We are not a perfect copy of what God is like, but we do share some characteristics with God. We’ll hear more soon.
EXTRA TIPS
If your grade-schooler is in First or Second Grade, start the morning working on the coloring sheet and activity page.
As time permits, do one activity before the Bible Story Video and one activity afterward, to help reinforce the message.
If your grade-schooler is in Third, Fourth, or Fifth Grade, download and print the Older Kid Journal Page for them to work on at the end of the lesson
