Revelation 21:5, “He who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’”

5. Answer the Big Picture Question

Jesus will destroy all evil and make all things new.

6. Interact with the Discussion Starter

7. Pray together

8. Do one or both of the Activities

Activity #1: Who is on the Throne?

Directions

Distribute sticky notes and pencils to all your kids and encourage them to write down a person’s name or title who deserves to sit on a throne. Set up a chair in the middle of the room to be the “throne” and instruct your kids to stick their sticky notes to the chair. When everyone in your family is finished read the answers out loud.

Say

How would you act toward someone who was sitting on a throne? Would you feel like you could go up and talk to him? Would you feel like you could go up and talk to him? Today we’ll learn more about John’s vision of Jesus in heaven. Who do you think will sit on heaven’s throne? Let’s find out!

Activity #2: Which is Greater?

Directions

Assign one side of your room as “A” and the other side “B.” Instruct your kids to begin by standing in the middle of the room. Give them two options and ask them to decide which is greater, and stand on the corresponding side of the room.

Suggestions:

A)    Sharks or B) Dinosaurs

A)    Sports or B) Video Games

A)    Speed or B) Strength

A)    Running or B) Dancing

Say

Did everyone agree which items were the greatest? We all have different opinions about things like sharks and superheroes, but one thing is always true and that is Jesus is greater than everything! The Bible tells us that one day all people and all creatures in heaven and on earth will worship Jesus. He alone is worthy to sit on the throne, and He alone deserves all praise and honor!

EXTRA TIPS

  • If your grade-schooler is in First or Second Grade, start the morning working on the coloring sheet and activity page.

  • As time permits, do one activity before the Bible Story Video and one activity afterward, to help reinforce the message.

  • If your grade-schooler is in Third, Fourth, or Fifth Grade, download and print the Older Kid Journal Page for them to work on at the end of the lesson
