Hey Parents!
We wanted to offer a few directions as you navigate leading your preschooler through today’s lesson and activities. Below you will find our Bible passage for the day, a lesson plan for the day, and several other tips that can help you and your child as you study and worship this morning.
Here are the materials you will need for our lesson today:
Coloring Supplies
Child’s Favorite Toy
1. Read the Bible Passage | Genesis 22
2. Ask the Big Picture Question:
Why can we trust God?
3. Watch the Bible Story
4. Review the Key Verse
Galatians 3:29, “If you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring.”
5. Answer the Big Picture Question
We can trust God because He is faithful.
6. Pray together
7. Do one or both of the Activities
Activity #1: Decide Between Easy and Hard
Directions
Explain that you will say a task. If your child thinks that task would be easy to do, he/she should stand up. If they think the task will be hard to do, he/she should sit down. Use the following tasks or create your own.
Eat your favorite ice cream. (easy)
Clean up the whole house. (hard)
Play with a good friend. (easy)
Climb up to the top of a tall tree. (hard)
Run across the room. (easy)
Give away your favorite toy. (hard)
Say
Looks like we all agreed that it would be hard to give away your favorite toy! It would be hard for
me to give away my favorite thing, too. In today’s story, God asked Abraham to give up something very special to him. We will listen to our Bible story to find out what that is!
Activity #2: Tell About a Favorite Toy
Directions
Lead your preschooler to sit on the floor. Invite your child(ren) to come up one at a time to tell about their favorite toy. Ask them if it would be hard to give up that toy forever.
Say
Giving up your favorite toy would be really hard, wouldn’t it? Abraham was asked to give up something way more important than a toy! But God did not take Isaac from Abraham, just like I am not going to ask you to give up your favorite toy. Why can we trust God? We can trust God because He is faithful.
EXTRA TIPS
Start the morning working on the coloring sheet and activity page.
As time permits, do one activity before the Bible Story Video and one activity afterward, to help reinforce the message.
Encourage your preschooler to memorize the Key Verse, Galatians 3:29.
