Hey, parents!
We wanted to offer a few directions as you navigate leading your preschooler through today’s lesson and activities. Below you will find our Bible passage for the day, a lesson plan for the day, and several other tips that can help you and your child as you study and worship this morning.
Here are the materials you will need for our lesson today:
Coloring Supplies
Construction Paper, 4 Colors
Tape
1. Read the Bible Passage | Genesis 32-33
2. Ask the Big Picture Question:
Does God keep His promises?
3. Watch the Bible Story
4. Review the Key Verse
Genesis 28:15a, “Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go.”
5. Answer the Big Picture Question
God always keeps His promises.
6. Pray together
7. Do one or both of the Activities
Activity #1: Sing a Name Song
Directions
Lead your preschooler in singing and clapping the name of each of your family members. Use the following lyrics to the tune of “London Bridge.”
“Clap a friend’s name with me, name with me, name with me. Clap a friend’s name with me. Let’s clap [family member’s name]!”
Sing again changing the motion from clapping to stomping to patting knees.
Say
God changed Jacob’s life and gave him a new name. God changed Jacob’s name to Israel. By dying and rising from the dead, Jesus made the way for us to be adopted into God’s family. When we are adopted into God’s family, we get a new name, too – children of God.
Activity #2: Play Four Colors
Directions
Tape four different colored sheets of construction paper spaced out around the room. Tell your preschooler and family members to choose a color to stand beside. Explain that you will close your eyes and count to 10. Your children and family members must move to another color while you count. When you finish counting, you will call out a color and then open your eyes. The family members standing by the color you called out will cheer.
Say
That was fun! The colors separated our one family into four groups. In today’s Bible story, Jacob separated his one big family into two groups. We will find out why when we hear the Bible story.
EXTRA TIPS
Start the morning working on the coloring sheet and activity page.
As time permits, do one activity before the Bible Story Video and one activity afterward, to help reinforce the message.
Encourage your preschooler to memorize the Key Verse, Genesis 28:15a.
