Hey, parents!

We wanted to offer a few directions as you navigate leading your preschooler through today’s lesson and activities. Below you will find our Bible passage for the day, a lesson plan for the day, and several other tips that can help you and your child as you study and worship this morning.

Here are the materials you will need for our lesson today:

  • Coloring Supplies

  • Family Photos

1. Read the Bible Passage | Genesis 37

2. Ask the Big Picture Question:

Is there anything God cannot do?

3. Watch the Bible Story

4. Review the Key Verse

Hosea 13:4b, “You know no God but me, and besides me there is no savior.”

5. Answer the Big Picture Question

God can do all things.

6. Pray together

7. Do one or both of the Activities

Activity #1: Sing a Song

Directions

Sing the lyrics below to the tune of “London Bridge Is Falling Down.” If you are unfamiliar with the tune, look it up online before starting.

“Is there anything God can’t do*, God can’t do, God can’t do?
Is there anything God can’t do?”
God can do anything!

*Substitute God can help us when we’re sad or other emotions in subsequent rounds. Finish each stanza with God can do anything.

Say

Our big picture question for the next several weeks is, Is there anything God cannot do? The answer is, God can do all things. Our next several Bible stories are about a young man named Joseph. Some sad things happened to Joseph, but God used all those sad things for Joseph’s good and to rescue His people.

Activity #2: Count People in Your Family

Directions

Set out some family photographs and books featuring families. Consider using a mobile device to show your preschoolers some digital family photos. Encourage your children to count the family members in the pictures.

Say

Jacob had 12 sons, but his favorite son was Joseph. Joseph’s brothers saw that Jacob loved Joseph most, and they did not like Joseph. Joseph’s brothers sent him to Egypt, but God protected Joseph and used him as part of His plan to rescue his family. Many years later, people did not like God’s Son, Jesus, and they killed Him. Jesus’ death was God’s plan to rescue sinners.

EXTRA TIPS

  • Start the morning working on the coloring sheet and activity page.

  • As time permits, do one activity before the Bible Story Video and one activity afterward, to help reinforce the message.

  • Encourage your preschooler to memorize the Key Verse, Hosea 13:4b.
