Hey Parents!

We wanted to offer a few directions as you navigate leading your preschooler through today’s lesson and activities. Below you will find our Bible passage for the day, a lesson plan for the day, and several other tips that can help you and your child as you study and worship this morning.

Here are the materials you will need for our lesson today:

  • Coloring Supplies

  • Paper Plate

1. Read the Bible Passage | GENESIS 3

2. Ask the Big Picture Question:

Who is God?

3. Watch the Bible Story

4. Review the Key Verse

Colossians 1:16b, “All things were created through him and for him.”

5. Answer the Big Picture Question

God is our Creator and King.

6. Pray together

7. Do one or both of the Activities

Activity #1: Play “Simon Says”

Directions

Explain to your children that you will be Simon. You will give them instructions to follow, but children should only obey those instructions that begin with “Simon says.” Gently correct your preschoolers who did an action that Simon did not say rather than sitting them out. After a few rounds, choose a family member to be Simon and play again. Continue playing with new Simons as time allows.

Say

Good job doing what Simon said! In today’s Bible story, God said Adam and Eve—the two first people—could eat from any tree in the garden except for one. God said they must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Do you think Adam and Eve did what God said or not? We will find out in today’s Bible story.

Activity #2: Identify Sin

Directions

Give each of your preschoolers a paper plate. Invite your children to draw a happy face on one side of her plate and a sad face on the other. Define sin as “breaking God’s rules.” Explain that we sin when we do the things God says do not do. We also sin when we do not do the things God says to do. Tell your preschooler that you will call out an action, if the action is a sin, your child will hold up their sad face. If the action is not a sin, he or she will hold up their happy face.

Say

Sin came into the world when Adam and Eve broke God’s one rule. Everything was different after Adam and Eve sinned. Since then, everybody has sinned— that includes you and me. Sin keeps us from God, but God never stops loving us. He sent Jesus to rescue people from sin and bring them back to Him.

EXTRA TIPS

  • Start the morning working on the coloring sheet and activity page.

  • As time permits, do one activity before the Bible Story Video and one activity afterward, to help reinforce the message.

  • Encourage your preschooler to memorize the Key Verse, Colossians 1:16b.
