Hey Parents!

We wanted to offer a few directions as you navigate leading your preschooler through today’s lesson and activities. Below you will find our Bible passage for the day, a lesson plan for the day, and several other tips that can help you and your child as you study and worship this morning.

Here are the materials you will need for our lesson today:

  • Coloring Supplies

  • Green Paper

  • Red Paper

  • Tape

1. Read the Bible Passage | Genesis 1-2

2. Ask the Big Picture Question:

Who is God?

3. Watch the Bible Story

4. Review the Key Verse

Colossians 1:16b, “All things were created through him and for him.”

5. Answer the Big Picture Question

God is our Creator and King.

6. Pray together

7. Do one or both of the Activities

Activity #1: Breathe Like Animals

Directions

Lead your children to breathe like different animals.

  • Bunny: three quick sniffs through the nose and then one deep exhale through the nose

  • Bear: pause and count to three between slowly inhaling and exhaling through the nose

  • Elephant: dangle arms in front like an elephant trunk, breathe in through nose while holding arms above head, breathe out through the mouth while swinging arms down

  • Snake: inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth while making a hissing sound

Say

Was it fun to breathe like animals? Let’s take a deep breath like the humans that we are. [Lead your children to breathe in and out.] Remember last week we learned that God created everything just by using His words? Well, today we will hear how God made His most special creation and gave it life by using His own breath.

Activity #2: Celebrate our Differences

Directions

Post green and red sheets of paper on either side of the room. Explain to your children that you will say a statement. Your preschoolers should move to the green paper if that statement is true of them and the red paper if that statement is not true of them. Use the following statements or create your own.

  • I am a boy.

  • I am a girl.

  • I like ice cream.

  • I like broccoli.

  • I like to play with trucks.

  • I like to play with dolls.

  • My favorite color is yellow.

  • My favorite color is green.

  • I like to look at books.

  • I like to draw and color.

Say

God made all of us different. We look different and we like different things, but we are all important to God. God created people in His own image, and He loves us. All people are special because God made us to know and love Him. Through Jesus, we can know and love God just as He planned.

EXTRA TIPS

  • Start the morning working on the coloring sheet and activity page.

  • As time permits, do one activity before the Bible Story Video and one activity afterward, to help reinforce the message.

  • Encourage your preschooler to memorize the Key Verse, Colossians 1:16b.
